God helps those who help themselves

There is an amusing story that illustrates the national character. There were four students in an English tutorial group at an American college. an American, an Englishman, a German, and an Indian. The tutor asked them to write an essay on "The Camel ". The American chartered a plane and flew to the Sahara to photograph the camel and collect first-hand information about it. The Englishman started writing there and then. The German went to a library to read all he could about the subject so as to make complete preparations for writing the essay. the Indian went to his room, sat down, folded his hands, closed his eyes, and prayed to God to write the essay for him.

We are only too prone to depend upon God or someone else for carrying out our tasks. That is why we see so very little work or no work done around us. When we do not rely upon God. we expect others, our fellow-being. to do our chores for us. This is a wrong and harmful attitude towards work. If all of us entrust God or somebody else with what is required to be done by us, nothing will be achieved and we are bound to come to grief. We must practice the principle of self-help, only then can we expect God to help us. If we do not help ourselves, how can we expect God to help us. ? Prayer to the almighty is, indeed. a good thing provided it is accompanied by initiative and efforts, but it would be absolutely futile is and absurd if one is to recline in an easy chair and hope that God will exert Himself for us. God is our guide. not our servant. We have no right to expect God's assistance unless we start doing our work sincerely. Human effort must precede heavenly aid. When in the well-known fable. the cart-driver did as he was directed. God then helped him and the cart was soon out and on the way. The moral of this story is that God helps those who help themselves. Work and God will be with you; sit idly and pray to God to do your work and nothing will be done. It's only when our hard effort is exhausted, that we have a right to pray and solicit God's help. God will never come to help an idler
